Monika Schnitzer, President of the Council of Economic Experts, told the Rheinische Post newspaper, "Special events require special measures. A possible response could be an additional solidarity tax on income tax for military aid to Ukraine."

Schnitzer noted that he knew it was "complicated" whether what he demanded would be implemented.

Stating that the Russia-Ukraine war is closely related to "freedoms", Schnitzer said, "It is better to act now than later."

28 billion euros in aid
To date, the German government has provided Ukraine with around 28 billion euros in financial and arms aid.

30 years in hiding! 30 years in hiding!

The last time a solidarity tax was introduced in Germany was in 1995, after the unification of the two Germanies, to help the eastern states develop.
