On Norway's Jomfruland Island, a family searching for gold earrings in the garden of their home found a Viking-era tomb.

According to BBC, a Norwegian family lost a gold earring in the garden of their house. Searching with a detector to find the earring, the family found a grave fragment and a round belt buckle thought to be from the Viking period.

Stating that the settlement in the region dates back hundreds of years, experts believe that the finds belong to the funeral of a woman who lived in the 9th century.

Experts knew that the island had been inhabited for hundreds of years, but the evidence only dates back to the Middle Ages.
