Amanda Hickey, the operator and caregiver of a child care center in Atlanta, pleaded guilty to 9 charges, including neglect and battery against the children in her care.

The court sentenced Hickey to 30 years in prison on 9 charges, including negligently causing the death of a 4-month-old baby in her care in 2021.

During the trial, Hickey argued that the baby she had placed on her back turned over on her own, but security camera footage showed that the baby was placed face down.

Prosecutors said the footage also showed Hickey abusing other babies and placing them in unsafe positions for sleep.

Stephanie Cronmiller, the mother of the dead baby, said in court, "There is no remorse. The only thing (the babysitter) is sorry about is that she got caught."

"I know there is nothing I can say to ease their pain other than taking responsibility and expressing my sorrow for what I have done," Hickey said in his first defense in court.
