Linette Montenegro, National Director of Cultural Heritage at Panama's Ministry of Culture, told the press that a pre-Hispanic tomb was found during excavations at the El Cano archaeological site in Cocle province.
Montenegro said the following about the discovery:
"We found a tomb estimated to be more than 1,300 years old, which contained two bodies, dowry belonging to a bride, some gold, ceramics, five breast belts, gold beads, four bracelets, earrings, a gold-plated bag and various necklaces."
Montenegro said they anticipate that the tomb belonged to the ruler of the period.
Archaeological excavations have been ongoing in the area since 2008.
