Veteran actress Nicole Kidman, who won the Best Actress Oscar for The Hours (2003), was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Merly Streep presented the award given by the American Film Institute (AFI) to the actress. In her award speech, Kidman said, "Making movies is a privilege. It's a wonderful feeling to be able to make movies and TV shows with storytellers who allow me to be free and play all these unconventional women."

Australian actors including Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Cate Blanchett also posted videos congratulating Kidman.

The award has previously gone to Julie Andrews, Denzel Washington, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

Her husband Keith Urban, her children and her niece also attended the prestigious event. 

Kidman's star shone with Tom Cruise's Days of Thunder (1990). The two got married the same year.
