J. K. Rowling, the architect of the Harry Potter series, has been the target of harsh criticism in recent years for her statements about trans women. Rowling's critics even included Harry Potter's leading actors Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

A statement on the subject came from Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in 8 movies.

Radcliffe stated that JK Rowling's statements on trans rights and the criticism that followed were "really sad". The famous actor said that despite her role in his life as Potter's creator, he doesn't think he owes Rowling anything:

"Obviously Harry Potter wouldn't have happened without Rowling, so probably nothing in my life would have happened the way it did without her. But that doesn't mean that you owe the things that you really believe in to someone else for your whole life. I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people and I have no other comment than that."
